Untimely deaths of Lone Fir Cemetery
Halloween wasn't looking to be very spooktacular this year. Our real mission was to visit with G&J down in Portland. Nonetheless, those guys managed to find an interesting happening down at the Lone Fir cemetery, so we loaded our thermoses with Irish coffee and drove over. We had to wait a short spell to get in, which was fine because it gave us time to sip the coffee and bump into the curator of the 24-hour Church of Elvis (previously believed to be gone for eternity). It is in storage, but looking for a more permanent place to inhabit.
Inside the cemetery, we found a guided tour of the gravestones of those who suffered untimely deaths. A local theater group acted out a true story about the person's life and how they ended up in the Lone Fir cemetery. There was the French prostitute, who died from alcohol (psorosis of the liver) and who's suitors paid for her burial. She shares a grave with her sister who died later. There was the bar owner who poured strong drink for pour souls and then shanghaied them for money. The woman who's husband wouldn't let her leave, so she axed him - she was executed. The mayor who died of a stroke the day after he won his election. Not necessarily spooky, but a fun concept in a unique setting.
